News Release

NJAC calls for WI Cricket Intervention

NJAC- The National Joint Action Committee is feeling a sense of spiritual humiliation by the defeat suffered by the West Indies team at the hands of Bangladesh, the lowest ranked team in Test Cricket.

Whatever the circumstances which may have led to us fielding a second rate team, does not dispel the fact that the records will show for ALL GENERATIONS TO COME, that the West Indies team was defeated by the Weakest Team in Modern Day Test Cricket. West Indian pride and prestige has suffered another severe blow.

NJAC is calling for a serious intervention from the governments of the region to set in motion a constructive process that could guarantee the changes needed to put West Indies cricket back on track. The resolution achieved through the mediation between the parties by the current CARICOM Chairman Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo is only a temporary measure. There is an urgent need for more substantive action from the CARICOM Ministers to institute a long term solution to this on-going problem. Caribbean governments must also put in place solid measures for the development of regional cricket at all levels, for the restoration of West Indies cricket to its former glory, where it belongs.

CLR James was quite correct in recognizing that in the Caribbean, cricket goes “beyond the boundary”. And while the
WICB and the WIPA hurl accusations at each other, the thousands of cricket fans throughout the region have to swallow their pride and accept the humiliation of a Test Series defeat to the cellar placed Bangladesh.

In the final analysis, whether it be the WICB, WIPA, the players or administrators, they are all accountable to the
People of the Caribbean. NJAC therefore Demands that positive action be taken in a very timely fashion to ensure that this type of embarrassment NEVER OCCURS AGAIN.
